To be upfront, Nintendo is the only reason I still play video games and the original Wii was the first gaming system I bought since the original black friday laptop deals Playstation. While I wouldn't mind having an XBox One or a Playstation 4, the prices and overrall game libraries for both just don't appeal to me. With that being said, I love my Wii U for a lot of the same reasons I loved the Wii - the original Nintendo titles. You can't go wrong with New Super Mario Brothers U, MarioKart 8 or Super Mario 3D land. Nintendoland and Super Smash Brothers are great for playing with friends and family. The Wii U's graphics are crisp and it offers a lot of interesting abilities through the gamepad. Being able to play games on the gamepad while my wife uses the TV is a big plus especially if you only have one TV in the house. You get the standard fair in other multimedia through the Netflix, Amazon and Youtube offerings. The internet browser is funcitonal if somewhat inconsistent. Its also backward compatible with the original Wii games and controllers. The Wii U also has the same Virtual Console function but to date they have not incorporated as many titles as were on the original Wii's version such as N64 games.

What it really boils down to is what you want from a gaming system. The Wii U has met all of my expectations and I think its a wonderful system but for hardcore gamers who prefer the more realistic games such as Call of Duty you'll not going to find that level of gameplay on the Wii U, but the original Nintendo titles are superb. As has been Nintendo's problem since the N64, third party titles are skimpy but there are some gems out there (Bayonetta 2, Child of Light).
I got mine from a local store for $299. The set includes the Wii U and GamePad. The Wii U is similar to the Wii and is HD with better graphics and a 32GB hard drive. The GamePad is the main controller for the system. It has a 6.2" touch screen and game control buttons; I would compare it to a 7" tablet with Nintendo quality controls. You can play the Wii U on a HD TV and most games play just with the GamePad. So, you can play high quality games such as Super Mario 3D World in the palm of your hands; the same concept of watching Netflix or playing Android games on a tablet. Super Mario 3D World has great game play and graphics; I would compare it to New Super Mario Bros with the controls and feel similar to Super Mario Galaxy for Wii. Also iphone 6s black Friday  Nintendo Land is included. Other items included are: Wii U power supply, GamePad Cradle/ Charger, HDMI Cable and instructions. The Wii U also has Nintendo eShop, there you can buy hundreds of Nintendo games and play on the TV or just the GamePad.
PURE FUN.

I purchased this bundle at Target right before Christmas when they were selling it for $50 off. The original price is $299.99. Couple that with the Target Red Card (5% off) and it was $237 before tax. Well worth it.

As most people are aware when the Wii U first came out, it did not sell very well due to poor marketing and lack of games. Well, I must say that after 2 years, this console has finally arrived. I won't list out all the games the Wii U has these days (an easy Google search for "Top Wii U Games" well give you an awesome selection of games.

Most critics will say the bad thing about Nintendo is the lack of 3rd party support, however there are some good 3rd party games out there that are available for Wii U. Is it as many as PS4 or Xbox One? Nope. But when it comes to the flagship games, Nintendo has got that covered to perfection. They just know to make FUN GAMES. Sure, from a specs point of view, it may not have the horsepower of a PS4 or Xbox One, but graphically the games are so beautiful, you forget about the specs. The games run very smooth. Here are some highlights:

*GAMEPAD: This is awesome. It adds a different dimension to the game. I know people complain about the battery life. Personally, if it runs low I charge it while I'm playing. And if you just place the Gamepad onto the charging dock/cradle that comes with the deluxe set after you play you're fine. Not a big deal. BTW, you really shouldn't be playing for more than 4-5 hours at a time anyways...that's how people gain weight.
* HD : Finally, Nintendo games can be seen in HD glory.
* LOCAL CO-OP: This is the best local co-op system out there. It's just fun to play with family/friends in a single room and not have to worry about playing online just to get the multi-player experience However, if you want to, Nintendo offers free online play.
* GAME LIBRARY: You'll find something for everyone
* BACKWARDS COMPATIBILITY: I can use all my old Wii remotes, nunchuks, Wii Fit board. This saves a ton of money on buying new controllers. And it plays all old Wii Games!
* VALUE: This deluxe set comes with 2 pre loaded games (Super Mario 3D World and NintendoLand). No discs are provided.

Overall, this is an amazing system. It may not be the most popular, but Nintendo just knows how to make fun games that you can share with family/friends. You won't regret this purchase.
-People don't understand the Wii U so they just decide they don't want to try it and they automatically dislike it. This is EASILY the best year for the Nintendo Wii U. So many top tier games like Bayonetta 2 (which is an IGN top ten 2014 game of the year nominee), Mario Kart 8, Super Smash Bros. (another IGN top 10 game of the year nominee), and not including games that are going to come out like the new Legend of Zelda game. Everyone and their mom KNOWS that the hardware isn't as good as the PS4 and XBOX One but that's not its' main selling point. Those games that I mentioned are all about the colors popping and flashy cartoon graphics which it pulls off quite well. I thought long and hard about how to word this before I wrote it: The Wii U is the most nostalgic next gen console out of the big three and that's an amazingly great thing. I grew up on the NES and for their virtual marketplace to have NES games like Super Metroid and Megaman just takes me back to my childhood and makes me wish I were a kid again lol. The Wii U is a family console. Anyone from 6 to 60+ can play it and have fun. That's what the system is. For the "hardcore" gamers that may not be enough for casual gamers like myself that's enough for me.
